Sidhu at receiving end of water cannon

For once, motormouth cricketer-turned-politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu was left speechless on Monday when he got a taste of what common man has to endure in order to even register his protest against anything.

The BJP MP and TV personality, known for his funny bone, was arrested by the Chandigarh police for breaching prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC , but not before he and fellow protesters had braved a lathicharge and a direct hit from the water cannon, which saw his turban flying!

A dripping, soggy Sidhu and another BJP leader, Vineet Joshi, along with 32 supporters were taken to Sector 17 police station and booked under Section 107/151 of CrPC.

They were later released on orders of SDM I S Sandhu.

Sidhu was leading a group of protesters on a jeep pulled by four horses to the Punjab governor's residence to hand over a memorandum against the UPA government's failure to control price rise.

The group had assembled outside a hotel in Sector 17 and was preparing to march towards the governor's house when the police stopped them and started cane-charging.

The group was unaware that assembly of 5 or more people had been banned at that particular place over two years ago.
