On run for 7 yrs, militant held

The special cell of Delhi Police arrested Habib-ur-Rehman, an alleged
terrorist belonging to the banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Mujahideen
(HuM), who was on the run for the past seven years.

He was arrested, on Monday, near Sarai Kale Khan after the police
received specific information. Rehman, allegedly, had provided
logistic support to two Pakistanis who were caught with a large cache
of ammunitions including RDX from Grandlay Cinema in September 2001.

Rehman, who belongs to Sambhal near Moradabad, went into hiding after
their arrests seven years ago, and was reportedly running a dhaba at
Haldwani in Uttaranchal.

The police said when the two HuM militants — Maqsood Ahmed and Sayyed
Mohammad — arrived in Delhi, Rehman arranged for their stay in New
Friends Colony and even provided them with a cell phone. The militants
had planned to bomb busy markets in Delhi. Ashad Hillal, who was
arrested last year, had assisted Rehman.

"He was evading arrest and was declared a proclaimed offender by
court. He once brought explosives, provided by one Pasha, a commander
of HuM in J&K, in the city," said Alok Kumar, DCP (special cell).
